Change of Heart

You came at a time when I was so lost,
a breakup of love with a horrible cost.
A damaged reflection of who I should be,
learning and yearning for a past I could flee.

You taught me of self-love and tranquility,
erasing much hate and that hostility.
Forgiveness and peace, were no where to be found,
'til the day I stopped looking once you came around.

The change in my heart that was growing each day,
brought light to this soul that was darkened and strayed.
I realized that my love has always been there,
through all those bad breakups, my heartbeat would blare.

Then you just kept going you didn’t stay long,
another love lost, yet another sad song.
At first I was angry and lost in my head,
you found a new love and you left me for dead.

I had a good cry as I pounded the floor,
kneeling and reeling I stared at the door.
I filed the memories so now can move on,
the darkness replaced by the dim light of dawn.

I'm happier now, as I look I can see
my heart has grown stronger and now I'm set free.
I look to the sunrise and crave a new start,
awaiting, debating, my next change of heart.

When Two Worlds Collide

When two worlds collide sometimes there's a spark,

sometimes it’s a tremble that rattles ones heart.

The shockwaves that reach to the depths of your mind,

bring questions that linger from some unseen bind.

Which way should you go, does  it even really seem real?

No time in your life for a heart that must heal.

Excuses and reasons may flood from your mouth,

for love that you long for but must do without.

Is it to soon or might it be just lust,

is this new person someone you can trust.

So many emotions once  locked deep inside,

will rise to the surface, when two worlds collide.

Hooked

I wait for you like the stars wait for the sun to leave the sky, so they can be seen.
I'm always there but never aware, does anyone notice, or would they even care.
I'm powerless when you come around my heart jumps up, my eyes fall down.
I'm Hooked.
I wait for you with baited breath, I draw you in, this dance with death.
A poison to me slowly kills my being, I know your bad and it makes me sad,
It makes me weak and draws me closer, to intoxicating to resist, the temptation of that deadly kiss.
Hooked.
When I first found you I was down, you lifted me up so I kept you around.
My very first high, you took me to flight, you stayed with me and I slept through the night. Hooked.
In my teen years you became a part of me, always around, your hand you would lend, always right there when I needed a friend.
I would sneak out at night, my parents, I'd fight. To be by your side I would claw and I'd bite.
Hooked.
I went off to college, I left you behind, my body would shake as you invaded my mind.
Hooked.
You’re now a disease, so filthy, I'm scared. A plague to my life and that leaves me impaired.
I leave you again, realize your no friend, you haunt me and stalk me, will this ever end.
Hooked.
I finally got married with kids of my own, you still show your face, you’re a dog, I'm your bone.
Your chewing me up, I get smaller each day. I'm weaker, I'm meeker as I wither away.
Hooked.
Now I'm divorced, you have caused me such pain, I can not escape you, you drench me like rain.
HOOKED.
Your name is addiction, a blasted affliction , kicked me out of my mind like a deadly eviction.
You are killing me now, I've one foot in the grave, I've done this myself, now myself I must save.
Hooked.
My body is frail now, so trembled and shook, I must win this fight,
NOW I must get unhooked.

Chains

How do you break the chains in your mind,
that keep you restrained and leave you so blind.
You toss and you turn as you lay in that bed,
self pity and loathing just scream in your head.
Imprisoned by love that once you both shared,
the scars turn to bars that your heart must now bear.
That heart beating deep in the pit of your gut,
your head pounding fierce when your mind just won't shut.
How do you break those chains in your mind,
when sadness and anguish are all you can find.
You quiver your lips and you wrinkle your nose,
your tears have run dry so the anger explodes.
Forgiveness is key to the healing you need,
it is not for them, but so you can be freed.
Let go of that anger that runs through your veins,
it is there you find freedom to break free from those chains.

Hand

 Hand

Jesus I'm praying please lend us your hand,
so many are dying, we don’t understand.

A virus has come and it touches us all,
the young and the old, even strong ones will fall.

The pain that it brings just keeps spreading so fast,
it's taking your world, won't you please take it back?

I know that your hurting, from those turned away,
but many still love you and many still pray.

I know you'll return and in time they will see,
that through all the time, Jesus you'll always be,
the healer the savior the king of all lands,
and this virus will die when it touches YOUR hand.

To Cold to Cry

 To Cold to Cry

When did this world turn to cold to cry,
compassion is rare and emotions have died.
People are lost and no one seems to care,
making it worse as they point or they stare.
Some are pathetic and others are mean,
laughing and scoffing or causing a scene.
Our people need help and depression is real,
its time we take action, its past time we heal.
Its time to stop fighting and digging up bones,
the hating, the baiting, the throwing of stones.
It starts in our hands, for we each hold a key,
to pass down the love and compassion they need.
Our children bring change when we show them the way,
with hope love and kindness we must start today.
There's hope for tomorrow if each of us try,
this world doesn't have to stay to cold to cry.

 Depression is a shadow.

Depression is a shadow, always lingering, always there.

Sometimes it is in front of you disrupting your view making it hard to navigate.

Sometimes your on top of it, seemingly in control but always on that edge.

Sometimes it is behind you, always nipping at your heels, always waiting for the next time it can overtake you and leave you in the dark again.

Depression is a shadow that even in the brightest light is still there and like the voice in your head it is always there.

Depression is a shadow.

The Bridge

I was driving through the mountains, on a long and winding ridge,

That's when I saw her standing there alone upon that bridge.

I parked my car right next to hers and walked that narrow trail,

then came upon that bridge that seemed to me was all to frail.

The wood was old and crumbled, and the rope was worn and frayed,

and every time the wind would gust, that bridge beneath her swayed.

She had a blank look on her face and sadness in her eyes,

her hair was loose and flowing as it beat against the skies.

She tightly gripped the ropes between her nimble little hands,

this child of God was lost that day, she took her final stand.

I had to fight the fear inside and walk that wooden path,

and every time that wind picked up my breath let out a gasp.

She told me don't come closer, or I'll jump and surely die,

I told her I'd jump with her and that made her start to cry.

Why would you do that? She said in shock, and rigid as a stone.

Because my friend, it is my belief, no one should die alone.

Her knees began to tremble and her breath began to quake,

the wind died down, the bridge lay still, except a gentle shake.

I slowly took one final step and reached out for her hand,

then led her back to safety as we reached the solid land.

I sat with her for hours as she talked about her pain,

the failures and shortcomings that would never leave her brain.

I told her that she's not alone, and we must all survive,

the hardships and those pains in life that make us want to die.

It only makes us stronger in our heart when we forgive,

the tears, like water, feed our soul and teach us how to live.

Embrace that pain, stand tall and firm, be happy your alive,

someday that strength you find may help somebody else survive.

I lifted up my sleeves and showed her scars upon my wrist,

from the day I faced my own life, when I nearly lost my grip.

The tear fell from my face this time, I looked into her eyes,

that day returned, the pain, the hurt, and now I realized.

The choices that we make in life are bigger than we see,

and all that pain we each must face will shape our destiny.

A smile formed upon her face and now she understands,

the path in life that she will choose is always in her hands.

She kissed me on the forehead then I watched her drive away,

my mind and heart still racing from the fear I faced that day.

I never will forget her or that long and winding ridge,

our destinies crossed paths that day,

standing lost upon that bridge.

Unseen

Sometimes I feel invisible forgotten and unseen,
blended in a crowded room that makes me feel serene.

It doesn't matter what I do or what I tend to say,
I fade back in the crowd and that is where I seem to stay.

Everyone's so busy in their life and in their mind,
it isn't hard to see this world we live in has gone blind.

They pass me on the corner but will never even see,
until I'm something that they want and fit inside their needs.

I'm the homeless on the street, a child that’s thrown out,
the worker sitting next to you, that you can do without.

Yes I'm a person just like you we share this common space,
yet still you do not look at me, I feel so out of place.

How did we grow so callous, hurtful, cold and just plain mean,
living in this world where everybody goes unseen?

Defeated

How do you rise up once you're so defeated,
that all of your hope, and your strength is depleted?
You love everyone and yet still feel mistreated,
the damage is done and your heart feels so cheated.

When I'm feeling lost and don’t know what to do,
if I'm sad and I'm angry I'm hurt or I'm blue.
My tears are so blinding disrupting my view,
I wipe them away but they're sticking like glue.

I scream and I fuss then I run or I crawl,
maybe drop to my knees, yes I crumble and fall.
I rock back and forth yet feel no hope at all,
so that’s when I get up I fight and stand tall.

When I'm feeling  angry, disgusted and heated,
cause hurt that I'm feeling is always repeated,
I face every challenge till they are completed,

See I am a fighter, I wont be defeated.

Pieces

Falling to pieces thinking of you,
what did I say, what did I do?
Where have you gone to, why did you run?
Remember you told me that I was the one?

Falling to Pieces counting the years,
planning a future, fighting back tears.
Nothing the same now , everything changed,
how can I do this, its all rearranged.

Falling to pieces, I'm on shaky ground,
A love that was strong, nowhere to be found.
Now that you left me, with holes in my heart,
this life is so different, I'm falling apart.

You wont keep me down, no I wont let you win,
when one love is over a new one begins.
The light is extinguished, I'm left in the dark,
I pick up those pieces and look for a spark.

I fight through the tears, and those cuts that run deep,
the promises made that you just could not keep.
So now I must put that love up on a shelf,
and learn not to love you but still love myself.

Friends

A friend that’s a friend through the ages of time,
will always be there through the rain or the shine.
A true friend will help you if ever you fall,
yes, a friend that is true will be there through it all.
Sometimes you may argue and others you fight,
at the end of the day you make everything right.
Nobody is perfect, you will disagree,
these things make you stronger in time you will see.
The strongest of friendships, will stand thorough it all,
the drama the heartache the pain and the fall.
You will rise above it new love will be found,
if that friendship is true you will keep them around.
For once it is real you will see it can't end,
if true love is shared you will be timeless friends.

Unique

You're one of a kind, there's no one quite like you,
in all that you are and all that you do.
Touching each soul as you travel this land,
Lives will be changed by the touch of your hand.
The joy and that courage, the strength that you share,
make a difference to others when life seems unfair.
So carry yourself like the gift that you are,
in darkest of nights, you're the brightest of stars.
When the world may seem normal, so dull and oblique,
You're making it better, because you are unique.

The Curse

Sometimes I feel cursed when it all falls apart,
when everything breaks, leaving holes in my heart.
The damage is done how I need a new start,
so I pick up whats left of those dreams that depart.

I try and catch up yet am falling behind,
with so much at stake it just shatters my mind.
I need to stay focused I must not go blind,
in a world that’s so cruel that it leaves you confined.

It seems like the end when it can't get much worse,
with all of the battles I need to disburse.
This pain that I'm facing somehow I'll reverse,
I will win this fight, yes I must break this curse.

Believe In Yourself

Believe in yourself, like only you can,
it starts in your mind and ends in your hand,
If you say you can't then you never will,
when you say you're sick that’s how you will feel.
If you say you're tired, your energy drains,
when you say that hurts, your mind will bring pains.
Your brain is amazing believe in this fact,
it is not a rumor, a lie or an act.
Just turn off the world and sit with your mind,
focus on that which your heart long to find.
Freedom from finance, or love and great health,
will all be achieved if you believe in yourself.

The Walk

The Walk
I take a walk to clear my head,
from hurt, despondence, pain and dread.
The mundane tasks of daily life,
form struggles, stress and sacrifice.
The crisp fresh air, the cool wind blow,
send calmness to my very soul.
The crickets chirp, the night owl hoot,
the rocks that crackle, 'neath my boot.
Somehow it seems to cure this stress,
when life seems like its quite a mess.
With every step and every stride,
I feel the healing deep inside.
The stars that twinkle up above,
remind me of this earthly love.
For I'm a dot, a speck in time,
a piece of a puzzle, so vast and sublime.
My worries they fade and those thoughts disappear,
as I think back on life and all of its years.
What troubles me now will soon fade away,
because time does not stop and those feelings don’t stay.
When I'm feeling helpless and don’t wish to talk,
I lace up my boots for a cool evening walk.
